4. Unexplained Nausea and Vomiting
Occasional nausea is common, but persistent nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite without a clear cause could indicate liver dysfunction. A damaged liver struggles to filter toxins, leading to a buildup of waste products in the bloodstream, which can trigger nausea.
Liver-related nausea is often accompanied by:
- A feeling of fullness after eating small portions
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss due to poor digestion
Ignoring these symptoms can lead to malnutrition and further liver complications.
5. Itchy Skin and Rashes
Persistent itching (pruritus), especially without a visible rash, can be a sign of liver disease. This occurs when bile salts accumulate in the bloodstream due to impaired liver function. The itching is usually worse at night and does not improve with regular moisturizers or antihistamines.
If accompanied by jaundice, dark urine, or fatigue, itchy skin could indicate cholestasis—a condition where bile flow is blocked, leading to liver damage.
